Two new small violas

I’ve started to make two new small violas.

Having played with and spoken to multiple viola players who are not of a tall or large stature, I recognise the need for good quality smaller violas. If a viola is too large, with long hours of rehearsal and practice, its player can start to suffer from neck, shoulder and upper back pain due to the straining of the left arm.

In response to this, I am making two very different small viola models, one Brescian based model and one Amati Brothers model, both less than 16” (though larger than 15”) and both with a design which will retain the power and quality of a larger viola.

If you are a viola player looking for a smaller instrument and you’re interested in trying one or both of these when they’re finished, let me know!
